I have a crack in an integrated Corian sink reacking from the drain to the edge of the bottom. I got a Bondo Tub Shower Repair Kit, but am having some doubts as there seems to be no info on the web, and nothing in the instructions really addresses making a waterproof sink repair. I know the real solution is to replace the sink, but that is not feasible for several reasons all involving cost for some time. So will the Bondo kit work with Corian. And do I need to apply the Bondo repair to the underside as well as the top.

i can t speak for the others but as a plumber, i wouldn t perform a repair. i d just get my countertop guy norm to do it.

Have you called Owens Corning, which I believe is the Corian manufacturer. They replaced ALL my countertops when the original material had a failure.

Lots of info on repair when googling, but little on diy except for professional installers saying not to try and none using Bondo kit. And my counter is out of warranty 15 years old. Replacement of just the sink since repairs are not done professionally on sinks would be a 1,000 and it would be much whiter than the other sink it s a double and the rest of the existing counter, due to age. So I am not sure a 1,000 repair is going to look better than a 30 one. Anyway, I went ahead and did the underside of the sink using Bondo with the fiberglass tape, and it looks effective, but won t test waterproofness until the top is done. I have opened the crack on top slightly using my Dremel, so am going to go ahead and try the top repair. Will report back so that there will be some first-hand experience recorded on the web.

Why aren t you using the Corian repair kit. The same one they use to make invisible joints in the top and for joining the sink to the top. Cutting the sink out and using a drop in cast iron or similar sink would cost a lot less than 1,000.00.

Where do you get a Corian repair kit. My understanding is that Dupont only sells that to authorized repair shops, and in large quantity. I thought about doing the drop-in, but cutting out the sinks leaves a hole that is too large for drop-ins that would fit the cabinet.

You cut the sink off even with the bottom of the countertop. That leaves an opening smaller than the drop in sink. You might then have to make the remaining opening large enough for the new sink.

Thanks, that could work, altho there are two problems: 1 I have a double sink, and one is bigger front to back than the other, so hole would have to be adjusted and little space would be left at back, and 2 the distance across the sinks, including the contoured edge is 33 1/2 so have to find a sink that will span that distance as well as the front-to-back.

Meanwhile, I went ahead and completed the bondo repair. It seems stable and waterproof. Fortunately I have white counters, but still the Bondo is not exactly the same white, and it polishes a little more smoothly. So the repair can be seen, but it is pretty subtle. My wife was surprised and satisfied. I am putting the full description in a separate thread so there will actually be some record on the web.
