Hello

I have SONY VAIO VGN-FE790G laptop. After installing WIN 7 memory card adapter work good with SD card 512Mb but not support 4Gb and more. How can I solve this problem. Does it need any specific driver.

Tanks.

Um, not to dispute the moderator s wisdom, but I don t think you need to buy any new components -- at least if you re installing a 2.5, 9.5mm SSD which is the standard size for virtually all after-market SSDs.

I just replaced my VPC-SA s hard drive with an SSD last night a 128GB Patriot Inferno model, and I am 99.5 sure that the mounting brackets and cables are the same as those in the VPC-SB. At least the process was identical to that outlined in the PDF that the moderator posted.

Before you go out and purchase expensive, proprietary Sony parts, give it a whirl. Just follow the instructions on the PDF and you should be able to swap the components from one drive to the other. Then reinstall Windows 7 from a DVD or your recovery media, and voilà, you re good to go.

Have a new hard drive and Restored cd s from Sony. After installing hd and starting into the system restore it gets to the point of formatting the HD using the complete restore and I get a Error:333.

This is a new larger hard drive and is clean.

Any idea what this error 333 is about.

Ok so this is kind of long but I m hoping someone will be able to help me. A couple months back my vaio died suddenly.

It wouldn t power on via battery or dc and I had no idea what it was, I read somewhere that it could be that the laptops heat melted the solder on the dc adapter so i purchased a new one and re-soldered it on. Didn t work.

Couple weeks ago, I decide to sell the thing on ebay for parts and come across an auction for a replacement motherboard for a relatively cheap price, so i decide to purchase it and bring the old thing back to life. After I get the motherboard, I install it, plug it in and then hold my breath while I hit the power button. VOILA. it powers up.

BUT - the screen doesn t turn on. So I figured maybe i missed a connection, I take the thing apart again, check all the connections, check that the wires aren t frayed or damaged. Compare it to the service manual, and everything is in order. I try again and still nothing. I tried hooking up an external monitor via the vga port and still nothing. I have no idea what it could be that is keeping this thing from turning on.

I have 5 days left to return this motherboard, and I would like to exhaust all possible routes of troubleshooting before I am forced to do that. If anyone has any idea, PLEASE respond.

Hi all,

This is for anyone who wants to enable 2-finger Macbook pro kinda scroll on their new VAIO S series. Since Sony refuses to make decent drivers for their Alps touchpads and forever remain in their testing and analysis phase for driver updates, this workaround will work well. Thank Toshiba for the driver

Just read the post in the forum. The link for the driver is there. I tested it on VPC-SC and it works well. There are some more options as well.

note: It may give a warning saying the driver is older than the one currently installed, just ignore it.

Model Number VPC2133GM

My problem began on June 6, 2011. I suddenly lost wireless connectivity, which is critical for me.

I was told I wasn t under warranty Huh I bought the computer on October 10, 2010.

On June 7 I faxed a copy of the purchase receipt to Sony. Called back. Support said call back in a few hours. I did; support closed.

On June 8, I could not get through. A message said there system problems. Finally after 5 hours and numerous calls I talked to a level 1 technician. I was escalated to Level 2 and the tech told me they would send out a new wireless card and within a few days I would be contacted.

On June 15, having received no call from a technician to install the new wireless card, I called again. Someone from Sony cancelled the technician and the replacement. Wired as opposed to wireless works.

On June 20, I call again. I can get no help.

On July 1, the service rep said my proof of purchase was not received which of course it was. I was escalated to Tier 2 at . Tier 2 closed early for the holiday.

On July 5, I called again. After being escalated to Level 2, Electra told me that they would authorize again a replacement of my wireless card. I offered to bring it into the local store in Costa Mesa. When I arrived at the store, Raul told me that he had seen this problem before and I had to have a full system restore before they would authorize a new wireless card. And, oh not incicentally, Raul tells me that it will cost me 100 if successful.

On or about July 9, I talk to Raul and ghe told me that the system did not work and replacement of the wirelss card was authorized for the third time. He said it would be 3-5 days.

On July 15, I called Raul and he told me that I was mistaken about what I had heard that the usual wait time is 10-15 days and, in any event, the part was back ordered.

On July 29, I called again and was told by a salesman that there was no one in the repair department today.

So, two months into it and still no computer. What is up with this warranty.

Rick

My vaio VPCEA36FM is giving me problems.

Symptoms:

- My numeric and F keys seem to be working exactly the same i.e. when i press 1 then I type it, but i also get the support/help option. When I type 3, then I get 3 but also the find option pressing 5 gives 5 along with a refresh..

- pressing p gives p along with developers tool

in a word document, Ins insert seems to toggle on automatically

- Alt Tab doesn t work

- Shift End/Home doesn t work to select text

What have I tried so far:

- tried to uninstall keyboard from device manager and let Win 7 detect it, problem not fixed

- tried to power off, remove battery and adapter, hold power switch down for 10 seconds to release any charge, and switch back on, problem not resolved

- booted in safe mode, problem persists

Can any of you shed some light / help me out with this. This has been a great laptop but I am hopelessly frustrated as of now

My computer thinks it is running on battery when it is not, then when I unplug the AC it turns off even though it shows battery power at 93 on the task bar. What s up with that.

After a VAIO Care hardware hard drive scan, I am receiving the message, RAID and SSD Drives are not supported.

Help. Am I missing a software driver. I already replaced the hard drive this week due to the machine running wonky. With the new drive, things are smooth again, though at boot up I saw that the audio service is not running. This fixed itself as the boot continued.

I can t seem to find any help online.

Model VGN-FW270J

I bought this laptop new a few years ago and have never had a problem other than replacing the keyboard pad due to a sticking space bar last year.

Just today, the row of keys at the top stopped working S1, Vol, Play buttons, etc. and AV MODE. I tried a reboot and they are still dead.

Is this a hardware issue or something I can fix with a system restore, etc.. I hate to have to restore the system to default but I need the volume keys to work and don t know what I should do. Thanks for any help.

Hi,

I just got the Vaio Fseries 3D laptop and when i tried to play Disney s Tangled in Blue Ray 3d. in corel dvd player - the picture is pixelated and the sound us very jumpy. I have tried to adjust the performance settings and 3d setting, but does not work.

Does anyone else have this problem. Please help.

My primary purpose for getting this 3D laptop was the ability to manage and play Blu-ray 3D media. Still wondering where the fixes are for Blu-ray 3D playability on the Sony VAIO F Series 3D laptop for Disney s Tangled 3D, that was released on March 29 and Tron: Legacy 3D, released on April 5. Needless to say these major movies still don t play on the VAIO laptop.

Phone calls to Sony support hasn t produced any recent results with Corel WinDVD software updates, the last one was on 3/28/11.

Starting to wonder if this will be a permanent problem.

Corel WinDVD is configured with the NVIDIA 3D software, jointly configured for 3D playability, and I m wondering if any other software on the market, like Power DVD 11, would be a viable alternative to play these latest authored Blu-ray 3D discs.

As I mentioned in an above post, other recent actions by Sony have resulted in providing software updates in a timely manner to fix Blu-ray compatibility problems in their dedicated Blu-ray 3D players currently on the market.

Suggestions appreciated.

Paul

Regarding the playing of The Final Destination 3D Blu-ray 3D UPC 794043 145841 released on August 2, 2011.

Disc is inserted in the VAIO F 3D model vpc-F2190x laptop and Corel WinDVD Version 10.0.5.804 starts up,

1. First on screen is the Piracy Fines and Prisons Warning. It stays on continually until the Chapter skip button is manually pressed.

2. 2nd the Important Notice comes on that states . .to ensure compatibility and the best possible viewing experience, your Blu-ray Player may need a firmware update. . and then the New Line Home Entertainment High Definition leader page comes on and then it dissolves to black. It will stay continually black until the Chapter skip button is manual pressed.

3. The Final Destination 3D menu comes on. When Play Movie is selected - the blue R Restricted rating screen comes on and will stay continually on until the Chapter skip button is manually pressed.

Once the 3 compatibility - hanging issues have been passed over, the movie will then play without a problem.

Paul.
