NOTE:  If an offline activation has been done in the past, please search all local and network shared drives for license.ofa files.  Delete any and all license.ofa files found.  This is necessary because the activation utility will not be able to create a new one if there is any other license.ofa file found and the activation will fail. 

There are 2 ways that a user will be directed to the Offline activation in the WS_FTP products.

You attempt the standard activation and the utility is unable to reach the Ipswitch activation server on the internet firewalls, network security, other.

You uncheck the option Use active Internet connection. Uncheck to force offline activation. at the beginning of the Ipswitch activation.

Once directed to the Offline activation, you will see the following information listed.  Completing all of these steps is required to complete the offline activation:

Follow these steps to complete Offline Activation for the WS_FTP Server or client license:

Click Generate File to create an offline activation file and save it license.ofa.

Note: if the license file was not created during this step, please follow this link for assistance.

Copy the offline activation file to another computer with Internet access.  Note:  If you do have internet access on the PC you are activating, you can complete the activation process without copying the offline activation file to another machine.

From the computer, visit  and follow the instructions to upload the offline activation file license.ofa  and download a license file license.txt.

Copy the license.txt file back to this computer and click Next to complete activation using the license file.

OR

Click Cancel to stop the activation process.  Restart activation later and use the license file to complete the activation.

If the Offline Activation fails when you attempt to generate the license.txt file step 3 you should get an error response.  The error will commonly state that either:

The number of license activations has been exceeded for this serial number.

This indicates that the license has already been activated on another PC.  The previous activation must be deactivated before you will be able to continue with the offline activation. 

To deactivate a license, you can login to the Ipswitch File Transfer Customer Portal with your registered account, click My Licenses, expand your WS_FTP license you were attempting to activate, then click Deactivate in the right column.  Follow the prompt on the next screen to deactivate the license.  Once this is complete, try step 3 again.

The activation was not successful. The serial number or the identification of the user are not valid. Possible solutions: verify and re-enter serial number 15 characters ; verify and re-enter extended activation key 23 characters ; verify and re-enter myipswitch.com username and password.

As stated in the error, this response indicates that either an invalid serial number was used, or the username and password entered before generating the license.ofa file are not correct should be the same as the myipswitch.com credentials.

To correct this you will need to click Back on the offline activation screen so you can verify and re-enter the Serial number, username, and password, then generate a new license.ofa file.
