The Fast Track Pro is a Class compliant device, which means that no driver needs to be installed for basic operation in Windows Vista. For access to more advanced features, such as ASIO support or 24 Bit driver resolution, you need to install our Windows Vista driver. Regardless of whether or not you plan on using these advanced features we recommend installing the M-Audio driver. This guide provides a walkthrough for how to install this optional driver.
Do not connect the Fast Track Pro to your computer yet. The driver installer should be run first.
1. Download the latest Fast Track Pro driver from the M-Audio driver download page and save it to your Desktop.
If this is will be the first time you are installing the Fast Track Pro driver on your computer, please skip the following uninstallation instructions and go to Step 4 of this guide.
If a Fast Track Pro driver is currently installed on your system, it will need to be removed before a new driver can be installed. In this case, launching the installer file should will allow you to Remove the previous installation. When first launching the driver file, if a window opens indicating that the publisher cannot be verified, Always click Run ; and if a User Account Control window appears; Click Continue.
2. Click Next to Remove the drivers.
3. Once InstallShield Wizard Complete is displayed, the drivers have been removed, click Finish.
4. Double-click the downloaded driver installation file again, if a User Account Control window appears, click Continue. The following window will open:
5. Click Next. The License Agreement window will appear see below :
6. Once you ve reviewed the licensing agreement, click the radio button next to I accept the terms of the license agreement, then click Next to continue and Install in the window that opens after this.
If a Windows Security window appears, click Install.
7. Click Finish in the last screen of the driver installation program.
Shortly after connecting the Fast Track Pro to your computer, a window will show Installing device driver software :
The drivers are now loading. When finished, it will display Your new devices are ready to use.
9. Connect the outputs of your Fast Track Pro to your speakers, mixer, or other amplification device so you can click here.
10. Once you have completed the installation procedure above, a small M-Audio icon will be visible in your system tray shown below. Right-click this icon to open the Fast Track Pro control panel.
This control panel can also be opened by double-clicking the M-Audio Fast Track Pro icon in the Windows Control Panel:
11. If you have completed both the software and hardware installation properly, it will open without problems and will show connected ; and the Fast Track Pro is ready to serve as an Audio Interface for your computer and recording software.
If the control panel shows not connected, Vista may have loaded the Microsoft Class drivers instead of the M-Audio drivers, please click here for steps on manually updating the driver.
